The cutthroat competition between the major telecommunications operators in Nigeria keeps getting hotter. This is good news for all of us – I mean consumers. Tariffs keep falling and the steady stream of exciting new offers highlight the intense rivalry between the telecomm giants. I personally have three SIM cards already – all in a bid to make cheaper calls. :D
MTN has just launched a range of brand new services which promises to be much more fun. What I like best is the MTN Special Number – for just 250 naira, you get to call only one number as much as you like for a whole month! Incredible?! Its true. Better still, the special number can call you too anytime, anyday within the 30-day window at no cost too. To migrate simply dials *563*number#. Read more about the Magic number here: MTN magic number. The friend and family feature is even more flexible: you can call 4 MTN numbers, one international number and one number from any network at 20k per second.
Etisalat has the best tariff deal for me. At a daily flat rate of 20 naira I can call any network at 25kobo/sec, this is great! I get to talk more!! Yay!!! And everyone’s happy too. I wonder why the others haven’t come up with something to challenge this, they keep restricting the goodies to their networks alone. :(
Although Glo and Airtel have their own packages too. Glo Infinito works for some and doesn’t work for some. The Glo infinito tariff allows you to call any Glo line at 35k for the first 30sec and then 25k/sec for whatever follows, to activate dial *103*1*1#. The downside is that it doesn’t work in all states. Learn more.
I’m not running a marketing campaign for any telecommunication company; far from it, I’m trying to find the cheapest way to call my friends and loved ones. Personally, I make most of my calls on my Etisalat – I spend more than 200 naira weekly to get the bonus 600 free seconds to call my family number :). Well, with the magic number from MTN, I think I won’t be needing the 600 free seconds anymore – I just hope MTN’s offer lasts long.
I like the competition, it’s healthy, it’s beautiful and it enables us to communicate more.
So go get calling…

nice1. but point of correction, d daily rate of etisalat is now 5naira. so which makes it still d best offer at moment, regardless of d MTN one special number promo
Wow! Never knew that! It keeps getting better even. Lets see how it goes.
I still paid #20 for d etisalat daily rate as @ 25/01/2011. Do u know u get 15mb free for recharging wit #200 on a weekly basis wit etisalat? I think Airtel offers d best rate @ d moment wit 60k per secs for d first 60secs den 20k per secs for d subsequent secs u make on a daily basis. All u need do is to dial *446#, its costs notin to switch and its a 30days validity period, it also comes wit 20free airtel to airtel sms

Me too… I don’t know how Habeeb got his. Hey Habeeb, inform us oh.
I don’t really like the Celtel deal as you have to pay 36 naira everytime for the first minute – I like Etisalat’s flat rate, that way life is simpler and it’s cheaper for me too. ;)
guys stop bin naive of d opportunity arnd u. chng ur package 2easy cliq and enjoy d 25k/sec @ 5naira flat rate. etisalat easy cliq daily nd weekly is still d best. same rate 2all netwrks, bt i like dis new offer by mtn, magic numb and also u can add one number 4rm oda netwrks 2ur as an additional F&F number e.g*560*1* 0805/0802/0809…..
abdulfattah on a 2nd thought, i get to use ma #36 to make voice call as well as save 5k per secs unlike etisalat dat reaps me of ma #20 and still charge me 25k per secs.
Lateef, I actually thot of the Zain too, but the Etisalat offer is cheaper. You spend 36 naira on every first minute call while wiv Etisalat once the flat rate is deducted, everything follows at 15 naira.
Calculations show that unless you are making a call longer than 5 minutes at a stretch – the Etisalat deal is far cheaper. For 3mins on Zain you spend 60 naira, while you spend only 50 on Etisalat. See its cheaper…
Thanks for this, I have also find some thing really cheap. myyello[DOT]com is the best site i have ever used.
